Noise and vibration performance enhancement

Issues relating to acoustics and vibration often arise in complex environments. Many constraints mean that the standard solutions or measurement systems available on the market are not always suitable.

In such situations, Metravib brings its expertise to support your project team and help you design and develop efficient mechanical solutions, customized measurement systems and/or carry out relevant numerical studies.

One example of our ability to offer you customized solutions is the AGLED system (Acoustic Gas Leak Early Detection), developed by Metravib Engineering in collaboration with TotalEnergies’ Safety R&D team.

AGLED | Acoustic Gas Leak Early Detection

Comprising an array of antennae each equipped with 4 microphones, this system is designed for extreme outdoor environments. It provides simple information based on AI combined with high-resolution localisation algorithms that can detect and locate a gas leak regardless of its nature.

The AGLED monitoring system developed by Metravib Engineering is the result of close collaboration with TotalEnergies OneTech’s Safety R&D team that began in 2018. In 2022, the prototype antennas obtained ATEX Zone 1 Ex ib IIC T4 Gb certification (-20°C < Ta < +45°C).

  • 2018 – POC (TRL3-4)
  • 2019 – 2020 – TotalEnergies TADI / SOBEGI site (TRL4-5)
  • 2021 – 2022 – ATEX certification (TRL5-6)
  • 2022 – 2023 – TotalEnergies and Air Liquide pilots (TRL6-7)
  • 2023 – 2024 – Industrialisation (TRL7-8)

Each antenna in the AGLED system incorporates software for early detection and location of gas leaks. Its main functions are to:

  • Record the audio signal picked up by the antenna’s microphones
  • Calculate and send a gas leak probability
  • Determining and sending angular locations and a localisation function.
  • Estimate health parameters of the antenna by means of an on-board self-test.

The advantages of the AGLED solution

Detection and localisation

  • All types of gas
  • X, Y, Z location of the position of a leak over 360°.
  • Accuracy < 5 m for a 10 g/s gas leak
  • Detection (not ultrasonic) up to flow rates of 1 g/s (depending on the environment)

Ingenuity and autonomy

  • Recognition of a leak by sound typology
  • Autonomous system with integrated health status indicator for each antenna
  • Low maintenance, field-proven durability

Integrated artificial intelligence

  • Controlled false alarm rate thanks to an appropriate neural network’s strategy (relearning function called upon operator’s request)
  • Complementarity with existing gas leak detection systems

Our approach is always open to different possibilities and follows a rigorous approach to solving acoustic and vibration problems. Our tools allow us to carry out any kind of signal processing and analysis, even if a trained eye is sometimes sufficient. As far as solutions are concerned, Metravib uses advanced numerical simulations to solve critical problems, and provides you with its recommendations and implementation proposals while respecting your technical and budgetary constraints.
